Strategic Initiatives
Energy
A robust energy strategy is foundational to Nevada’s economic innovation – not only to power data centers, but to support new industries in manufacturing, technology, and transportation. Nevada is uniquely endowed with a diverse mix of energy resources: abundant solar irradiance, significant geothermal reserves, existing natural gas generation, and potential for advanced nuclear development.
Tribal Engagement
Nevada’s future cannot be envisioned without recognizing the sovereignty, rights, and opportunities of the Native American tribal nations in the state. There are numerous federally recognized tribes in Nevada – including the Washoe, Northern and Southern Paiute, Western Shoshone, Moapa Paiute, and others – who hold jurisdiction over tribal lands and maintain deep cultural ties to ancestral lands across Nevada.
Critical Minerals
Nevada is at the epicenter of America’s effort to build a domestic supply chain for lithium, a mineral critical for electric vehicle batteries, grid storage, and a range of modern technologies. The state’s unique geology – arid basins with lithium-rich clays and brines – gives it an estimated 85% of the nation’s known lithium deposits making Nevada the undisputed leader in U.S. lithium resources. Beyond lithium, Nevada has opportunities to develop other critical minerals – resources like rare earth elements, cobalt, magnesium, vanadium, and more – that are essential for high-tech manufacturing, defense systems, and clean energy devices.
Battery Tech
Nevada’s growing prominence in battery technology is a natural complement to its strengths in critical minerals. By developing both the raw materials and the advanced technologies that use those materials, Nevada can capture the full economic value chain – from the mine to the finished product.
AI and EMerging Tech
Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are transforming industries globally, and Nevada’s mining and energy sectors stand to benefit significantly from these technologies. At the same time, Nevada can attract AI-focused companies and talent by offering unique “living laboratories” in which to develop and deploy AI solutions – from autonomous mining trucks in the desert to smart grids managing solar power flow.
